I know I’m late to the B737 MAX8 party, but Aeromexico wasn’t, they grounded their six MAX8s yesterday. Not sure if the DGAC will ban them over Mexican airspace as well, which would cripple South American operations, and also make flying to Hawaii a bit harder.
A shame they don’t use the Airbus jets.

Oh man, I wish the baby’s passport was already here so we could get our tickets ordered. This could only make our flights more expensive...

Would it really be crippled? There aren’t that many Max’s out there. Boeing has only delivered 355 worldwide.

How is it a shame they don’t use the airbus jet? The airbus was designed to extract 100% performance out of any possible situation recovery no matter who flys it....making it perfect for third world countries that have no aviation history and even less pilots that actually know how to fly a plane when the automatic systems crap out....meaning....they dont know how to fly a damned plane anyway.
The MAX problem stems from teh flight crews ability, period.
If your car has a cruise control that keeps accelerating or for some reason turning left unannounced when you dont want it, you turn it off and drive the car like a normal driver.
Same with a plane. An automatic system is screwing up? The response is to turn it off and hand-fly the plane, like a PILOT would. This problem is all about the crew following the procedure. when they don’t, then people crash and get hurt.....just like if you don’ t turn off the cruise control of the car and keep fiddling with the buttons instead of doing what the driver should do.....and drive the car.
ask me how i know this.
It’s not the plane. Its understanding the automation and then...then....its turning it off when it doesn’t work and FLYING the plane. Too many arent pilots and they love to comment on this issue....
Know what? I’m gonna disengage from all this and let it blow over. There’s nothing I or anyone else can do about this whole misconception over whats wrong, but the plane aint at fault. 2 crashes, not a single one in this country ever has had a problem like this. lets see what caused it.....if its the crew that didn’t do their job or if it was actually the plane.

I think Chile has some, and the range could reach N.

I don’t understand your rant.
As a passenger, the A320 is a better jet than the B737.
If it were up to me, Aeromexico would use the B787 and the A320. But I know that's not very cost effective as far as training and maintence goes.

If you’re flying to Mexico, I suggest you take a look at Interjet too, it’s a very similar quality to Aeromexico.
VivaAerobus and Volaris are low cost options.

Agreed. The only part I’m struggling with is how complicated the override is. From what I’ve heard and read, it was pretty simple if only they knew when to recognize the intervention and how to turn it off quickly.
I’m not an Airbus fan at all, but I’m somewhat glad they got that deal with Bombardier to build the C-series here in Alabama. I think that class of plane is truly the future, more so than ever-bigger 737 models.
/not a pilot, but grew up with hundreds of hours in the right seat with dad
//also flew sailplanes, the very definition of “flying the plane”

Yeah, I think the 737 MAX is new enough that no one should broken by this yet, especially if analysis of the black box allows them to unground them soon. If it goes on for months, that will stress some early adopters harder.

I really suggest reading a book called ‘fly by wire’ ( over on amazon here because theres a so-so thriller of the same name as wel lout there) which is the whole story behind the engineering of the Airbus product; it is a great story.
The procedure is simple. override the event with your trim switch on the wheel with your thumb. That stops it from happening. switch off the trim located on the middle pedestal . use manual trim and fly the plane and level off. simple if the crew uses proper crew management.
The A220 (cs-300) is really tearing up all projections of efficiency . It really looks to be a great plane so far.

Aeromexico is a code share partner with our local carrier (Alaska Airlines), which is how we end up on Aeromexico flights...

Oh... well.
I doubt they’ll be affected tbh, specially flights to or from the US
